The Side Exhaust Saga
"Never Say Never"

Recently one of my employees confronted me about my 1967 Corvette convertible, VIN #194677S109133, which is a 435 hp with factory side exhaust and has a tank sticker which is still glued on the gas tank.

I know this because on May 28th, 2008 I dropped the gas tank and photographed the tank sticker for its car documentation file.

My employee was concerned as to the legitimacy of the tank sticker and the car because the body's sill/rocker panel area was not typical factory production in as much as there were no notches in the rocker metal and the rocker panel support tabs were still in place spot welded to the cage but crudely cut-off.

So, on March 21st, 2009, I fired off an email (see fig. 1 below) to Al Grenning, Roy Sinor, and Dave Burroughs with my typical non-conforming humor and received the following responses from Dave Burroughs on March 21st (see fig. 2 below), Al Grenning on March 21st (see fig. 3 below), and Roy Sinor on march 21st (see fig. 4 below).

After receiving their responses, I scheduled time in our shop to put VIN #109133 up on our hoist and start our belated due diligence forensic inspection.

First, I made sure that the car has its original frame and that the body has never been removed from its original unrestored chassis and that both the VIN tag and trim tag were original and never have been removed.

I then called Al Grenning to set-up an appointment to inspect and affirm the originality of the tank sticker which is still glued to the gas tank.

We chose to get together at the NCRS Regional in Concord, NC for the inspection and subsequent affirmation of the tank sticker.

Burden of Proof
As pointed out in Roy Sinor's email, I know that due to the non-conforming/non-typical factory production anomaly in this situation that the burden of proof will always be with the owner of this car and that a legitimate tank sticker and an affirmation certificate from CCAS's Al Grenning will be helpful in the future and each judge may have different opinions on this matter but... never say never!
